I spoke with Clint Patterson. Currently he works at Simpplr as a Senior Solutions Consultant, but I know him from the DNN community.
As a side note: DNN is an Open Source, Content Management System which I worked with for over a decade. I used to be a very active member of the DNN community. The technology and community are still going strong but I decided to shift gears in 2019 to focus on new projects.
With that said, I brought Clint to talk about community building as he used to be the DNN Ecosystem Manager and Product Evangelist. One of his jobs was to be a liaison between the open source community and the company behind DNN.
Clint is a passionate guy, very charismatic and he has this innate drive to connect and motivate people. As discussed in the chat, this is most likely a result of being a football player first and a coder later in his life. He sees community as a team sport where camaraderie and sportsmanship is at the center of it.
